This page explains the entire storyline of the 1st Arc, listing what happened during each update. In total, the 1st arc spanned from 77 updates, more specifically 33 of them as their focus/significance.

Please note that this page does not include event lore, excluding Bo's introduction in the Dinosaur Event.

Update 1[]

Ghost Hunters Dylan, Gabe, Adam, Jesse, Captain Finsley, and Blaze are all available upon the release of Ghost Simulator. Gabe and Dylan are the first NPCs players can talk to, and serve to introduce players to gameplay. Adam, Jesse, and Captain Finsley are the subsequent NPCs, unlocked as the player progresses through the game. They have the player complete tasks in order to help them craft technology to serve as perks for the player.

Blaze is available when the player is able to access the Volcano biome (at Antenna Level 10). His dialogue makes him appear awkward and obsessive, stating that he’s been living in the Volcano for weeks straight to study the growing rift. He mentions “Them” multiple times, worried that “They” will try to stop him, and cautions the player not to alert Them to the player’s assistance towards Blaze. He laughs evilly upon success, and is supplied a power source for a device to stabilize the rift, in the form of a Godly Pet, by the player.

This is the first mention of Them, and at first, Blaze appears both evil and paranoid. He mentions a desire to leave this world in favor of the other side of the rift, stating that They won’t be able to find him there.

There is a mysterious egg in the Volcano. On the BloxByte Discord, MakkieMon says the smiley-faced rock adjacent to Blaze in the Volcano is named Wilson.

Update 1.1[]

The mysterious egg in the Volcano hatches into Magmoraug, a Dragon Boss.

Update 2[]

The Rift in the Volcano has grown.

Ghost Hunter Luna appears in the Forest but is unlocked at Antenna Level 10. She recruits the player into helping her and her agency investigate Blaze, who she believes started the Ghost Invasion. Magmoraug prevents her from spying on Blaze herself, so the player spies on Blaze for her. The player also assembles clues left on top of obbies for Luna, informing her how to stop Blaze from achieving his goal, and the decoder to decrypt the clues.

Luna mentions that Magmoraug and herself came out of the Rift. She also mentions that she and Blaze used to be co-workers in Area 51, but he started working on a ‘top-secret project’ concerning ghosts, causing this mess. Later, she spies on Blaze with Magmoraug out of the way and learns Blaze wants to go through the Rift to reach someone on the other side. Who this person is is unknown, and Luna expresses sorrow that Blaze is no longer her friend. Luna receives word that Blaze has created a class of pets called ‘Classified’, and has the player investigate by unboxing 30 pet crates.

Once the clues from the obbies are decoded, Luna shows shock and surprise at the contents of the messages and needs time to digest. The contents are not revealed at this time to the player, although they appear to undermine her previous knowledge.

Update 3[]

The Rift in the Volcano grows again.

After Version 1.3.0 was released, MakkieMon’s YouTube channel posts Log 01, Log 20, and Log 32.

Log 1 begins with Blaze excitedly announcing that he has been awarded a position to lead "a project towards the future". Unfortunately, Luna was not promoted with him, so Blaze didn't tell her about his promotion. His organization had discovered a creature unlike any other which he dubs "Subject One" and begins investigating. Subject One happens to be one of the Bosses the player can fight.

In Log 20, Blaze notes that the creature appears to be some sort of hybrid from another world. No matter what they did to it, it would always return to its original shape. When noticing its regenerative properties, Blaze wonders out loud if it could be used to cure someone, but the log is cut off before he says who.

In Log 32, Blaze begins to study Subject One's DNA, extracting it and then transferring it into human cells. When he supercharged the cells with "ecto-energy" from Subject One, it produced a small regenerative sample. Blaze named the sample B.O.B. for no reason other than the fact that he found it rather amusing. Bob became the first pet, and many pets would later follow.

Update 4[]

The Rift has stabilized and Ghost World, a new world, is now available through the rift. Ghost Hunter Shelly is the first NPC introduced in Ghost World, and she can be found in the Ghostly Islands.

When the player first meets Shelly, she is carefree and bubbly, seeking only to play games and be friends with the player. Shelly starts showcasing a poor memory, saying the player reminds her of some friend who used to take her to the shop when she was younger… or older. Thinking out loud, she tries to remember if she had a best friend before the player, but remains unsure. She states that her friend told her about bad people on the other side of the portal (Main Hub) and that ghosts have to stick together. She reaffirms that she is a ghost.

Later on, she gets more confused. She says the Developers told her to remind the player of her rewards; an extra pet slot and hoverboard, while getting migraines (“head fuzzies”), making it difficult to think. She sends the player on a quest to jump through a ring, saying they’ll give the player a smell that cures head fuzzies. When the player returns, it appears she’s momentarily forgotten about both the quest and her head fuzzies. She still tries to remember, saying ‘he’ used to have an item similar to ghost drops the player brings her. Once again, the devs speak to Shelly to tell her to remind the player of the reward. However, her headaches are splitting, and she tells the player to go seek out a Green Ghastly Fruit that They told her to eat whenever her head hurts.

When the player returns with the fruit and she eats it, Shelly forgets everything she’s trying to remember and her head fuzzies are staved off, and she returns to her bubbly, gift-giving, persona. This remains until the player is told to go through a blue ring that smells like the ocean, reminding her of memories with two other people at the ocean.

After the player returns from a hoverboard racing quest, she reminisces about racing with her brother, shortly after which she expresses shock at the idea of having a brother, as ghosts don’t have brothers. Her head starts hurting again, and she’s being forced to remind the player of her hoverboard and extra pet slot. She pleads for the player to stop her from forgetting again, by collecting 6 pieces of something. Once the pieces are gathered, they turn out to be a photograph of Shelly, her brother Blaze, and her friend Luna, hanging out and laughing. After this, she stops forgetting, and her head fuzzies get far less severe. She realizes she is actually a human, not a ghost. Additionally, she explains that she left home to find Luna and the others. Blaze was manipulated by Them, and the accident bringing everyone to Ghost World was Their plan, which Blaze blamed himself for.

From here, she investigates what’s been happening to her.

Shelly remembers that Blaze was searching for a cure for her illness. At times, her mind and body weren’t her own, leading Blaze to become a scientist to discover why. She gets another head fuzzy and a compulsion to remind the player of her reward, and notes it is as if it was programmed into her. She continues explaining her arrival into Ghost World. Blaze was distraught after his experiment landed Luna and the ‘others’ into the Rift, and worked around the clock to reopen it. When he succeeded, Shelly decided to try to take on his burden by jumping into the Rift to bring them back, but the Rift closed behind her.

Shelly also notes that pets were created by Blaze, in an attempt to create a cure for her. She dives deeper into her illness, saying that she would say or do things that didn’t make sense, and were out of her control. Like she was being controlled, and afterward, she would have splitting headaches and no recollection of the events. After she jumped into the Rift following Blaze’s attempt to cure her and the catastrophic events that occurred during the first Rift opening, she met a guide in Ghost World. Ghost World started to make her forget herself but also took away her pain and memory lapses, and she’s ultimately stronger and healthier here. She decides to stay in Ghost World but investigates what’s been happening to her. She is unable to tell the player when she figures it out but expresses surprise that they can’t retaliate against the player as they do against NPCs. She cautions the player against what They want, saying they’re spying on her, unable to tell the player any word against Them without them knowing. She warns the player about Their plan, and about future NPCs, saying to trust no one.

After 1.4.0 is released, MakkieMon’s YouTube channel posts Log 37, Log 44, Log 48, and Luna’s Distress Call.

In Log 37, Blaze announces that he and his company will finally begin their test to make it to "the other world". Blaze believes that with access to "the other side", he will be able to find the key to curing the human race. As he is launching, Luna suddenly yells Blaze's name. Blaze is in shock, the project launches, and the record is cut off.

Log 44 is more cryptic than the other logs. It begins with Blaze desperately wanting to reach the other side. He wants to save “them” from what he and they did. "Who could be so heartless as to use the very people that swore loyalty to the work... The science...". The log ends with Shelly telling Blaze that she can help, and Blaze refuses, warning her to stay away from the Rift.

In Log 48, Shelly is now talking. She knows that her brother wants her to stay away from his work, but she’s concerned about her brother’s general health. She says that she will find the others, she WILL stop “their” plans (for good). She then proceeds to say goodbye, and then warping noises are heard, similar to the ones at the end of Log 37.

In “Luna’s Distress Call”, we hear Luna calling for help. She has been trapped in Ghost World for around 86 days, and this is her 130th distress call. Luna is close to finding a way back and intends to stop whoever did this. She tries to communicate the reason for the invasion, but her voice starts muffling, and she’s lost signal.

Update 8[]

Before 1.8 is released, the BloxByte Twitter posts a message, warning readers not to trust “Ace”, saying that he works for Them and that “I’ve been captured”. The sender of the message says that they’ve implemented a remote trigger, but shortly afterward, BloxByte regains control of the Twitter account and tells readers to disregard the messages.

Upon the release of 1.8, Ghost Hunter Leo and Ace are implemented into Ghost World’s Ghostly Islands and Castle Courtyard, respectively.

Ace is one of the scientists that was stranded in Ghost World alongside Luna the first time the Rift opened. He reveals he has the ability to go anywhere, calling himself the Keymaster, as he can open any door. He brings up Them, referring to them as omnipresent/all-knowing. He states that wondering who They are is why Shelly’s memories were erased, and she was set up as a powerless character in the game. He expresses resentment over being picked on by other Ghost Hunters, after which he was given his Keymaster power by Them, as well as the ability to guide the player through the plot. He and his allies have embraced their new plot, unlike Leo, who ended up caged at Castle Courtyard.

Leo is another scientist stranded in Ghost World with Luna and the others. When the player meets him, he is stuck in a cage. They captured him, and he recruits the player to help him out while training them. He’s amazed at the uniqueness of the player, in that They cannot alter the player like they can alter NPCs, such as how they altered Shelly. He explains that who They are hasn’t been explained to the players due to NPCs either not knowing about Them, NPCs being too scared to act against Them, or NPCs acting against Them and getting punished like Shelly.

Leo recounts the accident, and the events following. Blaze and the others were recruited to work with an organization studying the world of ghosts, but Leo reveals ghosts are actually aliens, rather than spirits. They also have incredible regenerative properties, stating one could stick them in a jar, and they’d pop out perfectly fine. Blaze was interested in this, as it could be applied to heal his sister Shelly. He and a few other scientists, including Leo and Ace, were recruited to work on a portal to Ghost World to get more test subjects. As they were about to test the portal, nobody knew Ace had made a miscalculation. The portal swallowed up the Ghost Hunters, and they were stranded after the portal closed behind them. They were gradually separated.

The next time the Rift opened, Shelly walked through, and she’s healthier than she had ever been. Living off of Ghost World food changed her, and all the Ghost Hunters. She dug around but was found by Them. Before, she was weak and still searching for Luna and the others to help her brother. Afterward, she was healthy but had no recollection of any of them.

It is also revealed that after Ace met Them, he changed from being a good guy to joining Their side, betraying Leo and putting him in the cage after he found the admin panel and accessed their data. Leo discovered that They were manipulating all the NPCs to guide the player, but didn’t expect them to develop self-awareness. He then uploaded a message to the BloxByte Twitter, telling them not to trust Ace, and received a message from Luna, telling him to find her coded messages at the obbies.

Leo sends the player to find the key to his cage, complete the obbies to track down the messages from Luna, and help him assemble the All-Purpose Device while he translates the messages from her. Leo goes free, and it is revealed that They recruited Luna after all the scientists got separated post-stranding, by convincing her Blaze was evil. This was in order to take out Blaze. Leo expresses minor admiration for Luna, and jealousy of Blaze. The player brings Leo components to assemble an All-Purpose Device to translate the rest of Luna’s message, which ends up being a call to action for Ghost Hunters, gathering them to fight in a secret location, and preparing for the Final Battle. Following this, Leo decides to stay in the cage, despite having the key, in order to guide other Ghost Hunters.

Update 9[]

The Dino Event is implemented for a limited time in 1.9.0. This is an event themed around dinosaurs and has a Dinosaur King miniboss, the first chronological appearance of Ghost Hunter Bo. Dialogue for Bo (Dino Event), as well as other lore locked behind the time limit, such as world clues, remains incomplete due to no complete records existing.

Bo is a light-hearted character, singing a song Jesse taught him, egging and pranking other people, and making clever quips. Bo has the ability to use emoticons, unlike other NPCs. Bo is a Ghost Hunter, and also a ghost himself. He often has slips of the tongue or other quotes betraying his desire to take over the world, but also tries to cement himself as having innocent intentions, related to anything that is not taking over the world. His desire to take over the world appears to stem from his grudge against Them, saying that he can take over their places as puppeteers of this world and that his plans for the world are far better than ‘theirs’.

Bo, like other NPCs, used to get voices in his head telling him to promote the reward at the end of a questline, but interestingly, Bo says he severed that connection long ago. Bo knows Developers Joven (Thexz) and MakkieMon well enough to know their preferred style of eggs.

He calls back to when a Ghost Hunter stuck him in a jar.

Bo takes a liking to the player, assigning them a nickname, joking around with the player, and expressing genuine sorrow when he believed to have accidentally killed the player when sending them to defeat some run-of-the-mill bosses. However, he asks the player not to reveal his association with them to anyone, especially to Ace. Bo reveals he’s the one who plants the strange rings, saying they’re all part of his plan for the world, which outclasses ‘Their’ plans for the world. Bo at first, calls friendship silly, and refers to the player with titles such as ‘minion’. He even reinforces his denial of his friendship with the player, but later apologizes, expressing fear over being close with a human due to being made to forget or be forgotten. He reaches a breakthrough, in that if the player gets stronger, ‘they’ won’t take away the player like they did for another friend. This also implies that Bo thinks of the player as a friend, despite his denials. Right before his questline ends, Bo tells the player that he considers them to be his best friend, but ‘THEY’ will attempt to wipe his mind, forcing Bo to pretend he doesn't know the player in order to prevent further attempts. He promises that once he takes over the world from Them, he can afford to not hide his memories or friendship with the player. Bo’s final reward is Bo’s Friendship.

At this point, the player has enough evidence to make an educated guess that 1) Leo stuck Bo inside a glass jar, and 2) Shelly was Bo’s best friend, whose memory was wiped by "Them".

Update 12[]

In 1.12.0, Yoko appears at Castle Courtyard. Yoko is a strong fighter, who is always looking to get stronger. He is confident in himself, calling himself the baddest fighter around, and asking if the player has come to challenge him. He utilizes onomatopoeias such as “Ker-Blam!” and “Wha-Cha!” to play into his tough-guy personality. When he learns the player needs training, he tests them first, but the player meets his expectations, and he mentions Luna chose well. He gives the player more tasks for training, and says nothing more of Luna until he appears to have a break in character and almost remembers he’s trying to help her. He shows more splits as the questline progresses, switching between the overzealous coach with sound effects, and showing confusion over who he is. He especially shows a struggle over resisting the push to promote his final reward, the Hoverboard Turbocharger, saying “they can’t make me say it.” Yoko struggles for control over himself, switching between what they made him be, and the Agent of Luna that he is. ‘They’ are actively changing his code, and they know the player is onto them.

Yoko trains the player to prepare for the upcoming fight. Yoko is in contact with Luna for a good portion of the questline. She assigns tasks for Yoko to give to the player to train them, and as the player meets his expectations, Yoko reveals more. When the player finds the first Strange Painted Symbol, Luna gives Yoko the all-clear to let the player continue the initiation process for the Agents of Luna, a group Luna assembled that Yoko is a member of. The Strange Painted Symbol is one of five Agents of Luna symbols scattered around Ghost Simulator, for Agents of Luna recruits to find in order to prove themselves. After a few more symbols are found, Yoko expresses concern for Luna, revealing she’s gone no-contact, and thinking either she’s in danger or They severed her connection. When the fourth symbol is found, Yoko tells the player that because they’re not made of code like the NPCs are, They can’t control the player, and the player has the ability to fight Them. Yoko reveals Luna assembled the Agents of Luna to fight Them. They misled her and turned her against Blaze, convincing her that he was evil when Blaze was correct the whole time. They are controlling the NPCs, and Yoko assigns the player their final task. He gives the player Luna’s Key and sends them to find the fifth symbol and Luna’s Room for the Turbocharger, and the player will come across this in The Lab at Main Hub.

Inside Luna’s Room is a myriad of thoughts, secrets, and theories Luna has. The information gained is outlined below, but the biggest takeaway is that ‘They’ are the BloxByte Developers. Once the player returns to Yoko, he confirms their findings. The Developers are controlling NPCs, but they can’t control the player because they don’t have code. The NPCs are real people, just like the player themself, and they need the player’s help to fight the Developers.

Yoko mentions offhandedly in an unfinished questline quote that he thought he saw two Dylans.

In Luna’s Room: there is a computer, along with a tablet, a turbocharger, and various notes and bulletin boards on the walls.

  • The first wall has nothing besides ‘THEY ARE Watching!’ written in red and underlined.
  • The next wall has a bulletin board, with the heading “THEY are the DEVS” at the top. Photos of the building labeled BLOXBYTE HQ in Blox City, Wilson (the rock in Volcano), the BloxByte Twitter Account, Graffiti “DYLAN” and “THEXZ” from the path to Junkyard from Blox City, and the five Developers found in Main Hub, are all tacked up on this billboard.
  • Another wall has the Agents of Luna symbol at the top. Two smaller bulletin boards are on this wall. One board has the complete version of the photo Shelly sends you to assemble in her questline, as well as a signed photo of Bo, a small cartoon of Bo with an ‘OwO’ face, some illegible notes, and a post-it note. The other board has the five Developers, each labeled with a post-it note. They are labeled “DEVS?” and circled with red. Three more lines extend from this circle, leading to a crossed-out photo of Shelly, a photo of Ace, and two photos of Dylan and a lookalike wearing an orange version of his outfit. Dylan and his lookalike are also circled, and a note posted on the board expresses confusion over the existence of two Dylans. The tablet and the turbocharger are on a surface underneath these bulletin boards.
  • An additional wall has a large whiteboard, with photos of various NPCs grouped up, circled in red, and labeled. On the top left, Bo, Gabe, and Gatekeeper are grouped and labeled ‘???’. To their right, Adam, Captain Finsley, and Jesse are assigned ‘Neutral’. The bottom left has Leo, Blaze, Shelly, Luna, and an unknown girl with brown hair and a green leafy outfit. They are labeled with ‘Confirmed Agents of Luna’. On the top right, Ace and Dylan, the Orange Dylan lookalike, a girl with red hair, and another girl with black hair, a beanie, and a galaxy shirt, are all circled and labeled ‘BAD’. Finally, on the bottom right, a single statement, ‘IT’S THE DEVS!’ has been underlined and circled. Underneath this whiteboard, there’s a double monitor. One monitor has Ghost Simulator itself running, with a player who appears to be Luna. The other monitor is a blank screen.

Update 14[]

Ghost Hunter Jylan is added to Ghostly Islands. He is the Orange Dylan lookalike. The information previously given in Luna’s Room implies a suspicion concerning how identical Dylan and Jylan look. Additionally, Jylan and Dylan are aligned with the Developers.

When the player first meets Jylan, he immediately references Dylan, who he calls his brother, and acknowledges their similarities. He loses a jar of green goo, which he sends the player to find. He says it’s important, but he avoids telling the player what the goo is or the significance of it. When the player returns with the jar, he mentions he didn’t tell the player what the goo is due to Them, and calls himself their favorite. He expresses confusion over why people think both he and They are evil. He admits to working with them, considering them to be akin to his parents, as they made him.

Update 15[]

Ghost Hunter Jax, the redhead girl with a cameo in Luna’s Room, appears alongside Music Meadows in Version 1.15.0. She immediately acknowledges the Developer versus NPC conflict but says she prefers to stay on the sidelines, in Music Meadows. She enjoys working with music and discovered this passion when hitting a ghost and hearing the frequency while trying to contact the overworld. Before telling the player anything more, she tests the player first, due to a distrust stemming from the NPC war involving many of her friends. Once the player completes another task, she’s willing to explain.

Jax recaps the accident and the subsequent events. She was working alongside the other Ghost Hunters, like Blaze, Ace, and Luna in the lab. The Ghost Hunters were a close-knit group, except for Ace, who couldn’t make friends and was easy to laugh at. Back then, Jax was less confident. She notes that after the Ghost Hunters arrived in Ghost World, lots of them changed drastically. Jax became more courageous and found her passion for music. Ace, however, had already been approached by Them. They funded their research on opening a portal into Ghost World, and They offered Ace power in exchange for sabotaging Blaze’s portal and stranding them all in Ghost World. After the Ghost Hunters were abandoned in Ghost World, Ace disappeared. Luna and Leo tried to keep the group together, but due to conflict, they all ended up separate eventually. Jax notes that supposedly, Luna managed to make a Roblox account, upload herself out of the game, and reach the overworld.

Normally, NPCs just are what they’re told to be, but Jax believes They let the NPCs become who they are by themselves. After they entered Ghost World, they evolved on their own terms and became satisfied with who they are. Jax herself is happy in Ghost World, preferring it to the overworld. She flusters when asked about her concern for Ace, suggesting underlying interest, despite seemingly no interest in return. Later, They approach her and tell her she’s right in that they have a reason for doing this. They ask her to join them, and she wants to accept, both for her concern for Ace, and because she believes they have a legitimate reason and are not evil. The Devs even add a song she’s created as the Music Meadows soundtrack. Jax accepts the proposition and hopes that the war ends peacefully.

Jax also mentions casually spotting a Ghost Hunter that’s also a ghost, implied to be Bo. He visits often, and Jax believes that he’s not on either side of the war. Additionally, he acts evil, but Jax believes he just wants friends.

Update 17[]

Ghost Hunter Fern, the brunette in the leafy green outfit seen in Luna’s Room, appears alongside the Haunted Castle. Similar to Yoko, she trains the player for a fight, but Fern is more positive, showering the player in encouraging sentiment. Rather than training the player for the fight against the Devs, she prepares them for the immediate fight against the Devs’ guard, which has to be accessed through Gatekeeper. She also enlists the player to help her craft the final reward: 25 Crate Keys. Like the other NPCs, she has to advertise the final reward, but reveals that if they don’t resist advertising, they can use the rest of their dialogue to speak freely.

During the questline, Fern receives orders for the player from Luna. As the questline progresses, she talks about other NPCs fondly. She praises Jax’s cooking skill with envy, shares about Leo’s worrywart tendencies for her and the others, wishes to make Luna proud, and even borrows sayings from Jesse. While gushing about the player, she compares them to Jax, who she says is ‘so awesome’. She accidentally lets slip that Jax is her big sister, and asks the player not to tell anyone. She also idolizes Luna, similar to Jax, and does her best not to disappoint her. Luna ends up giving Fern the final task for the player: to obtain updated intel, in the form of a tablet, from Luna’s Room, and deliver it to Fern.

Update 18[]

Ghost Hunter Liz, the girl with a galaxy shirt seen in Luna’s Room, appears alongside Gatekeeper and the Great Guardian in Version 1.18.0. Liz is a shady character, hiding in the Blox City alleyway. Liz mentions an affiliation with some very important people, who have given her a pet loaded with power for the player. Liz considers that the player wouldn’t trust her, but entices the player with the pet, in exchange for their help. She doesn’t ask much of the player, sending them on errands in a similar manner to other NPCs in Main Hub, like Adam and Jesse. She mentions her love for cats, which drives her to send the Street Cat ghosts home to Ghost World. After another task, she hands the player the pet, noting its extreme power.

Gatekeeper guards the door inside the Haunted Castle. He is a very stoic figure and doesn’t speak at all. The player tries to guess at things to do for Gatekeeper and scavenges for rewards after returning, as Gatekeeper doesn’t seem to be moved in any way. Eventually, the player notices Gatekeeper eyeing the vending machine, and considers that he’s hungry. They go and obtain a Very Important Item, appearing to be a chocolate bar, from the vending machine. When the player returns, they give it to Gatekeeper, who thanks the player, saying he was very hungry. He speaks in third person, with very rudimentary language. Gatekeeper gives the player Photon Blaster technology and Guardian’s Key, unlocking the Mega-Boss. He warns the player that Mega-Bosses are different from regular bosses and that they must learn the attack patterns and shoot from a distance. Gatekeeper promises to give the player a special item to advance the plot if they beat the Mega-Boss. Once the player defeats Great Guardian, they are given a Datalink.

Note that the questlines for Gatekeeper and Fern have been heavily revised. In the original version, the player was required to obtain the Very Important Item from Fern’s questline, rather than from the vending machine during Gatekeeper’s questline.

Update 20[]

Ghost Hunters Hu-man and Victor are added to Area 51 and Ghostly Islands, respectively. They are the first infinite questline NPCs, due to the never-ending nature of their questlines, their dialogue is purely related to the tasks, with very little information even referencing the story. However, Hu-man appears non-human, with green skin and antennae, and appears to float. Her name plays on this, as it is a slight modification of ‘Human’.

Update 26[]

The Backdoor, a new permanent world, was added in Version 1.26.0. In order to access it, the antenna must be upgraded to Level 11 with the Datalink from Gatekeeper, and the portal randomly appeared in the Wild West. The Swamplands have a multitude of similarities with the Forest: both are woodland biomes, both have a lab, and both have a tutorial NPC. However, the Swamplands appear to have glitches in the map, with sections where the map appears to have neon green circuitry.

The Backdoor tutorial NPC, Gab3, shares an uncanny amount of similarities with Gabe:

  • Gab3 is Gabe, with the ‘e’ turned into leet.
  • Gab3 and Gabe have similar attire, the biggest difference being the color and binary pattern on Gab3’s shirt.
  • Gab3 starts off his questline with the same dialogue as Gabe, and has almost all of Gabe’s quest names, albeit written with some leet. He does use more Gabe dialogue later on, such as the fun fact about ghosts stealing.

As Gab3’s questline progresses, it breaks down. He starts with a stutter, then randomly switches dialogue, seemingly going to give the player a task to recharge their battery before completely ignoring that thought and asking them to go find his favorite axe. He gives out gems when he says he’ll give the player Boss Crates, and he starts getting Error messages, similar to a terminal reporting errors and executing commands. During the questline, if the player talks to him before finishing a task, they may hear him call for help as an unfinished questline quote. He ends up patching together dialogue from other NPCs, such as Blaze’s introduction, going straight into a task template from Luna. This is the worst it gets, as he reports a command to return to expected script, and finishes off the questline appearing to be fixed. He mentions Luna, copying one of Gabe’s finished questline quotes saying ‘we’ll fix her programming eventually’.

Update 34[]

Ghost Hunter Riley is implemented into the game alongside the Winter Tundra, Mushroom Forest, Twisting River, and Crystal Cave. Riley immediately starts off her quest with standard dialogue, similar to NPCs in Main Hub like Adam and Jesse. However, she lets slip one line without any personality, reporting the quote like a computer. She shivers at the cold, telling the player to hurry up. As the questline progresses, her dialogue breaks down. She gets colder and colder, and her dialogue keeps returning errors, having to do with her dialogue not being found. At some point, her questline dialogue forcibly restarts, including the same glitch with the initial line lacking personality. Her dialogue degrades even faster, and she doesn’t seem to be aware that she’s glitching. Once she starts repeating herself similar to a scratched CD, she starts displaying terminal commands like Gab3 did. She reports an error, which is sent to BloxByte HQ. The error was found to be in her character profile, which was subsequently overridden and marked as resolved.

From then on, her dialogue contains no personality. However, Riley calls out to the player occasionally, but this is immediately flagged as an error and resolved. One time, she manages to break through long enough to tell the player to search through Crystal Cave for clues, but is shut back down by the time the player returns.

When her questline gets closer to the end, she manages to maintain her control over her personality. Riley calls the player to search for the truth about the game, saying that it’s not right. She asks the player to bring an object to the cloud in Mushroom Forest while she’s still lucid. Following this, she has a lapse in control, her dialogue degrades, and she says goodbye. Once the player returns, her dialogue logs confirmation of error report findings from BloxByte HQ, identifying Riley as the source of the error. The error source gets deleted, and her questline finishes.

If the player hangs around in the Crystal Cave, watching the walls at a certain angle, letters spelling out "BLOXBYTE KNOWS" can be seen flashing for a brief moment. This is likely to be the clue Riley was telling the player to search for.

Update 35[]

Rather than a code advertising new content, the code for Version 1.35 is "WEKNOW."

Update 36[]

Rather than a code advertising new content, the code for Version 1.36 is "YOUKNOW."

Update 37[]

Rather than a code advertising new content, the code for Version 1.37 is "ABOUTUS."

The full sequence of the codes for the last three updates spells out “We know you know about us”. This mirrors the message in the Crystal Cave implemented in Version 1.34.

Update 39[]

The Farm, Spaceship, Barn, and Beehive are implemented in Version 1.39. All four biomes have visible black and neon green matrices, with the deterioration growing as the antenna level unlock requirement increases. The Spaceship and the Barn notably are the first biomes to have neon green binary text on the walls of the map. Additionally, the Spaceship contains 5 NPCs nearly identical to Dylan and Jylan, save for the coloring. Two of them are yellow and orange, sharing Dylan’s and Jylan’s colors respectively, but the other three, colored pink, dark blue, and green, do not match any characters in-game. All 5 of these characters are part of the map, appearing dormant in tubes and not meant to be interacted with. The common ghost from the Spaceship, Parasite, has 5 eyes on tentacles and one main eye. The eye colors on Parasite correlate somewhat with the colors of the Dylan lookalikes: The eyes on the tentacles are colored purple, pink, dark blue, orange, and yellow, while the main eye is colored green.

Ghost Hunter Billy is also added to the Farm. Billy asks the player for help for mundane tasks, similar to NPCs like Adam and Jesse. At one point, he has the player go searching for his pitchfork, which he seems to have dropped while exploring the spaceship. It has ended up in a display case at the entrance to the Spaceship. His dialogue degrades, like Riley and Gab3, but Billy never reports any terminal commands or errors. He speaks with inconsistent usage of capitalization, and when the player shows discomfort at his glitching, he only expresses mild confusion. When the questline ends, the only indication that something is wrong is still the capitalization.

Certain parts of new content have visual glitches:

  • Billy himself occasionally glitches black with neon green binary overlay.
  • One cardboard cow displays the Agents of Luna symbol alongside the words “Be ready…” for a split second.
  • In between the capsules containing the dark blue and the pink copy of Dylan, the Agents of Luna symbol momentarily flashes alongside the words “The Final...”
  • In the lower room of the Barn where ghosts do not spawn, the words “battle…” briefly flash.
  • While this doesn’t flash, another one of the cardboard cows displays “Ooooomies!” in green text on its back. This was later explained as a reference to an inside joke between MakkieMon and a friend.

On 2/17/2020, Agent Leo and Luna manage to hack into the BloxByte Games Discord Server, breaking their radio silence. They converse with the BloxByte community members, mentioning Leo stays in the cage voluntarily. Luna worries about an Agent 03 (presumably Blaze), meant to guard the original home base, who she lost contact with. Leo writes him off as fine, saying his survival skills or at least his energy would keep him okay. Luna says she has the new home base almost set up, but they realize the Developers have noticed them, forcing them to go back under the radar.

Update 41[]

Ghost Hunter Joven is added to Ghost World in Version 1.41.0. Joven is notably a cyborg. He immediately talks about the Developers, saying they created him to keep the player busy for a while with tasks. He idolizes them, praising them as glorious and powerful, and thinks of them as his parents whom he wants to make proud. He similarly idolizes the player, calling them a hero and praising their ability to crush his tasks.

Joven focuses his questline around having fun and getting rewards, in order to keep the player distracted and make the Devs proud. He brings up the fact that all tasks for every questline has a reward, explaining that this was a rule created by the Devs in order to give the players a good time. He loves hanging out with the Devs, and hopes the player gets to hang out with them too someday. Joven brings up clones a couple of times, such as when the clones prank him by hiding his power core. He also reminisces about the HQ, showing excitement at the idea of showing the player around where the clones were made, where he was made, or where his old room is. He lets the questline end when the Devs inform him that he doesn’t have to keep the player busy anymore, and he asks the player to shout him out to the Devs in the future for a job well done.

Update 42[]

Starting in Version 1.42.0, purple messages begin to appear in the chat, from an unknown sender. At the end of each message, there was a number, 1-10, and a letter.

  • “Is this message getting through? Can you hear me, Ghost Hunter? 1B 7T”
  • “Hold on, I'm scrambling their chat signals. They shouldn't be able to track us now. 2L 8E”
  • “Ghost Hunter, we don't have a lot of time. Something big is coming... 3O”
  • “We finally found them. They've been hiding all this time... They are at ######## ##... It didn't let the message go through. Can you patch it, ###? 4X 9H”
  • ”Please let this message get through... It looks like all five of them are there and preparing for battle... the biggest battle yet... It's time to decide the fate of our world! 5B”
  • “We need you to be ready. Gather everyone you can. We're counting on you. The back door is your key... 6Y 10Q”

By ordering the letters according to their paired number, it spells out "BLOXBYTE HQ".

A few hours after 1.42.0 releases, Luna and Leo contact the BloxByte Discord Server again, confirming the purple messages were from the Agents of Luna. Leo says a number of things in conversation with the server:

  • Fern told Leo that Jax is her sister, and is still keeping it secret from Luna.
  • Jax joined the Devs.
  • Leo put Bo in a jar once, which he didn’t like.
  • Leo thinks of Blaze as a rival.
  • Shelly broke free of the Devs and joined the Agents of Luna.
  • When confronted with speculations of an NPC named Ella (due to uploads of clothing labeled Ella by MakkieMon on 2/19/2020), Leo maintains that he has never heard of a person named Ella, but brings up rumors about a new girl who crossed events.

Update 43[]

The Mini-Boss Anomaly is added to the Backdoor.

Update 45[]

Ghost Hunter Rowan, Data Stream, Reverse City, BloxByte HQ (biome), and Agents HQ are implemented in Version 1.45.0.

Rowan immediately sets himself up as one of Luna’s associates. He takes a while to reveal his part in the story, but he does decide to reveal it. Rowan glitched out when the other Ghost Hunters were taken into Ghost World by the Rift, and he landed in Reverse City. He learned to mess with code while stuck there, and he found valuable intel he was able to send in a message to Leo and Luna. The two are able to use his information to break into Backdoor.

He asks the player to recover his Flashdrive that he dropped when he landed in Backdoor, saying it contains a code that may be able to assist in breaking into BloxByte HQ. While scouting the biomes for the parts for Rowan’s Overcharge upgrade, Rowan mentions that the Devs infiltrated Agents HQ recently. He sends off the player once they arrive with all four Overcharge parts, and makes sure they know that the Agents are right behind them.

There are several World Clues uploaded alongside the new biomes.

  • Once inside the Data Stream and following biomes, the sky turns black. There are several swirling green clouds and green portals.
  • The Data Stream is entirely distorted black and neon green, except for a hut built by Rowan, which is black and blue.
  • Reverse City is, per its name, a sick parallel of Main Hub’s Blox City. It is broken down and glitching, with fallen billboards, a boarded-up Hoverboard Shop (out of commission), and crooked structures.
  • Reverse City has an X from Main Hub’s Beach lying haphazardly on the ground.
  • The Entrance to BloxByte HQ is open, and a beam can be seen shooting directly upwards from BBHQ into a massive green portal above.
  • One room inside BBHQ has four tubes, each showing a different stage of a growing of a person appearing like Dylan: in short, the process of producing clones.
  • In the same room, behind a wall of glass, a Data Fury ghost can be found, enlarged and suspended upside down. A pink version of Dylan can be found suspended in front of the Data Fury. He is presumably asleep or otherwise unconscious, inside a pink goo like what contains the brain for Data Fury ghosts. Next to him, his model is displayed alongside unintelligible readings based on scans.
  • In another room, Bo appears in front of a button labeled ‘Do Not Press’. Two portals open: one with a massive gray arm and a pastel cuff, the other bringing in yellow and pink trees previously unseen in Ghost Sim.
  • In the final room, there is a massive green wall with a neon lock on it. Portraits of the five Developers are displayed on the ceiling. CovenK’s portrait has pink heart decals, Thexz’s portrait has himself holding a vacuum and a pack, and blue YouTube decals, goro7’s portrait has binary decals, MakkieMon’s portrait has herself holding a wrench and has cat ghost decals, and didi1147’s portrait has fire and red YouTube decals.
  • In the alleyway where the path to Junkyard would be in Main Hub, the graffiti does not say the names of the Developers, but displays “AGENTS OF LUNA”, “WHO WILL YOU BELIEVE”, and “TWO SIDES”.
  • Inside a manhole is the entrance to Agents HQ. One room has a display case showing a model of a glitched tree deconstructed into separate parts.
  • There is also a sizable table displayed with markers for characters, not unlike a war strategizing board.
  • In another room, there is a broken-down portal.
  • There is a black window that occasionally lights up. Leo can be seen sitting at a computer, with Luna right next to him, and Ace watching the two in a corner. All the boards that can be seen in Luna’s Room are present, with added photos of Reverse City.
  • There is an assortment of cheese on a table next to Ace.

Luna’s Alignment Board:

  • One side says BLOXBYTE, and the other says AGENTS.
  • On the BLOXBYTE side, there are five large red markers arranged orderly, likely symbolizing the five Developers.
  • Also on the BLOXBYTE side, with dark blue markers, red name cards, and red font, there are Wylan, Dylan, Jylan, Joven, Jax, Ace, and an unknown ???.
  • With lighter blue markers, yellow name cards, and red font, there are Hu-man and Victor closer to BLOXBYTE, a ??? among the AGENTS, and, aligned directly in the middle of the board, Boven.
  • Also in the middle of the board, with light green markers, cards, and font, there are Gatekeeper and Bo behind Boven, with Gab3 and Gabe on the opposite side (still aligned in the middle).
  • On the AGENTS side, with neon green markers, pink cards, and pink font, there are Rowan, Fern, Shelly, Blaze, Yoko, Riley, Leo, and Luna.
  • Billy, Adam, Jesse, Finsley, and an unknown ??? have light blue markers and yellow name cards, similar to Hu-man, but their font is pink like Leo and Luna.

In the BloxByte Discord server, MakkieMon mentions that she knows Leo escaped his cage and left a hologram in there.

Update 49[]

On 4/20/2020, after the release of Version 1.49.0, MakkieMon mentions finishing her masterpiece and hinting that the players will see it in the future. Shortly after, Agents Leo and Luna speak in the BloxByte Discord server again, warning players about a massive creation uploaded by one of the Devs. They update the players, saying that they’re working on breaking into the door before the creation is finished. Leo in particular is crafting a key. They converse with the community members, clarifying a number of things:

  • The Devs tried to turn Luna against Blaze because he was the first to catch onto their trail.
  • Leo clarifies Riley uploaded herself into the cloud and is backed up on the internet, escaping her death.
  • Leo is unsure about Billy, saying he lives in his own world.
  • Jax enjoys writing, Fern likes drawing, Yoko enjoys fighting anime, Shelly and Bo team up to prank.
  • Gabe is also a mystery, in that he doesn’t respond to anyone.
  • The NPCs developed more human traits, like exhaustion and hunger, upon developing sentience.
  • Rowan used to work with Blaze, Leo, and Luna back in the old lab.
  • Leo hints at a cheese enthusiast among the Agents.
  • Leo acknowledges the clones and mentions that the cyborg was also an experiment. He also theorizes that Dylan wasn’t the original clone.
  • Dylan and Jylan were originally thought to be brothers, but their code had oddities, which is why they were classified as ??? in Luna’s Room.
  • Anomaly’s code differs so greatly from other Bosses that it’s as if it came from a whole different game.
  • Leo thinks that he’s meant to be in his 20s.
  • The Devs didn’t intend for the NPCs to become aware.
  • The portal in Agents HQ was the one that Ace sabotaged, taking the Ghost Hunters through the rift.
  • Leo managed to upload himself into a Roblox account, like Luna.
  • Shelly and Blaze manage to access the BloxByte Discord server.
  • Leo denotes sentient NPCs as Aware Programs (APs) and non-sentient NPCs as Non-Aware Programs (NAPs)
  • The Ghastly Green Fruit is the only food in Ghost World, but the wrong ones can wipe memories. The Fruit given to Shelly during her questline by the player was one such fruit.

Update 52[]

Ghost Hunter Wylan is added to the Backdoor in Version 1.52.0. He immediately slips up and almost refers to his brothers as clones. He talks much more freely about their father and their brothers, saying that Father likes to keep them in tubes until they’re complete. Like Jylan, Wylan asks the player to search for a jar of goo, letting slip that it’s important to them, not just him. He refuses to elaborate on the contents of the jar of goo. He geeks out over his father and the Devs, saying that he and his brothers were made for the Devs by his father, before remembering he’s not supposed to tell the player. When the questline ends, he brings up the goo again, reminding the player not to tell his father that Wylan lost the goo.

Update 56[]

Ghost Hunter Boven is added to Reverse City in Version 1.56.0. He looks like Joven, his brother, except with brown hair and colored green. He’s not aligned with Devs, nor is he an Agent of Luna, but hopes to deescalate the conflict through gifts and screenshots. Everyone involved is either his family or his friend, and he appeals to the player to get them to stop the fighting by highlighting all the good that can be found in Ghost Sim.

Rather than a code advertising new content, the code for Version 1.56 is "ITSCOMING."

On 6/11/2020, Leo hacks the BloxByte Twitter and tells the players to prepare, as well as sending out some encoded messages.

  • The next two tweets are binary, and translate into: “This is Blaze. I’m waiting for you. We’re going in. Try this”
  • The last tweet is in hexadecimal and translates into: “This is Luna. It’s time Agents. The Final Boss is coming…”

He also logs into the BloxByte Discord and chats for a bit.

  • He says he’s almost hacked some sort of door.
  • He calls Dylan a clone boy and dismisses the idea that he could hack his way out of the game.
  • The encrypted tweets were a necessary measure to prevent BloxByte Developers from reading and filtering their communications.
  • Bo likes to snoop, and he teams up with Shelly to prank people.
  • He acknowledges Boven’s neutrality.
  • Most of the other Agents are on errands for Luna.

Update 57[]

Agent Blaze shows up in BloxByte HQ, next to the massive door. He tells the player that Luna has instructions for them to reassemble the key for the portal. Unfortunately, he has lost the map and asks the player to help him with his scientific research while he tries to remember where the fragments are. Throughout his questline, the player completes tasks for him and collects the fragments. Once all nine fragments are assembled, the lock on the door breaks, opening the portal to the Final Boss. Blaze gives them the final task to defeat the Final Boss.

During Blaze’s questline, he brings up the other Ghost Hunters often.

  • Jesse and Billy are cousins.
  • Shelly’s cured and happy, and he misses her a ton.
  • Riley was discovered to be safe, surfing the Internet from the Cloud in Mushroom Forest. The player retrieves her from the Cloud, and Leo ports her back into the game before the Final Boss fight.
  • Luna likes using the walkie-talkies for fun.

The Final Boss fight takes place in the portal Blaze unlocks. The other side of the portal is deep inside BloxByte HQ and has a room for each Dev in a hallway, as well as a massive room for the Final Boss timer and a secret room behind a chest.

The Developers reveal themselves for the first time in the BloxByte HQ arena, with the Dev-aligned NPCs right above them, on the outskirts of the arena. Included in the Dev-aligned NPC lineup is Vylan, who is the father of the Iylan clones. They explain their actions, saying Ghost Sim was only ever meant to be just a game before it evolved. The NPCs were seen as artificial, just bugs in need of patching. They even accuse the Agents of starting the fight, by becoming sentient and disrupting the escapism Ghost Sim was meant to be. As the fight starts, MakkieMon says they’ll roll back the clock and delete the world that was never meant to exist.

During the fight, Ace maintains the Developers’ shields, which Leo tries to hack into. The Player takes down the pillars/eyes to deal damage to the Final Boss. As the battle progresses, the Developers delete parts of the game for the player, starting with their jetpacks. Next, they delete the hoverboards, at which point the Agents of Luna get out of the arena and help from behind the scenes with Leo. The Devs move on to deleting every NPC, and then the world, leaving only a void of a battle arena and a timer. Once defeated, the Final Boss breaks down and Devs make a tactical retreat. The NPCs are restored and the Agents thank the player for their help, telling them to go visit Blaze and disappearing through a portal.

Once the player visits Agent Blaze to finish his questline, two scenes play. The first is an assembly of the Developers with every NPC in-game, waving to the player. The next is an alarm blaring, as NPCs from both the Agents’ side and the Devs’ side gather around the portal in Agents HQ, which is no longer broken down. The camera zooms into the portal as the cutscene ends.

The five devs’ rooms each have a myriad of fanart centered around both Ghost Sim and BloxByte Developers. Makkie’s room, however, also has hints surrounding NPCs.

  • She has a board of allegiances similar to the one found in Luna’s Room but updated. Gabe, Gab3, Gatekeeper, and Bo are grouped under ???. Hu-man, Victor, Billy, Adam, Jesse, Finsley, and Boven are grouped under Neutral. Jax, Ace, Dylan, Jylan, Wylan, Liz, Joven, and Vylan (photo of the NPC in BloxByte HQ biome) are grouped under Dev Team. Leo, Luna, Fern, Shelly, Blaze, Riley, Rowan, and Yoko are grouped under Confirmed Agents of Luna.
  • She has some photos that the player has been given, or asked to find or reassemble. Namely, Shelly’s photo of Blaze, Luna, and herself, Bo’s signed photo of Bo, and Boven’s photo of the Devs.
  • She has photos of the NPCs spread out over a couple of boards, with lines running through them. The lines are implied to be interpersonal relationships, color-coded by type of relationship, with bars marking the direction of the relationship.

Makkie’s Board

  • For instance, Pink seems to be cloning. Vylan has a pink line with no bar connecting to Dylan, Jylan, and Wylan, who have bars. Dylan, Jylan, and Wylan were cloned off of Vylan. Gabe and Gab3 share a similar pink line, but neither was cloned off the other.
  • Blue is friendship. Shelly and Bo are friends, as are Adam, Jesse, and Finsley.
  • Green is siblingship. Fern and Jax, Shelly and Blaze, Dylan Jylan and Wylan, Boven and Joven, and Human and Victor all are groups of siblings.
  • Yellow marks NPCs as cousins, judging by the fact that the only line is Jesse and Billy, who are cousins.
  • Red seems to be love. Riley and a cloud are marked with a red line with no bars, and the two are circled with a post-it with ??? scribbled on it. Gatekeeper and a chocolate bar are mutually marked with love, also with a post-it labeled ??? marking the relationship. Fern is one-way in love with Ace, but Ace and Jax are mutually in love. Leo is one-way in love with Luna, who in turn is one-way in love with Blaze. Surprisingly, Rowan seems to harbor feelings for Liz.
  • Black is hostility. Leo and Ace share a bar, and Yoko seems to have a one-way rivalry with Joven.

Bo appears in BloxByte HQ too, hidden with a puzzle. Each of the Devs’ rooms has a secret to unlock, interactable with using Bo’s Ghastly Cane found in a chest surrounded by green ectoplasm. His hidden room has a Do Not Press button under a glass case, a large keyboard, and photos of various places in Ghost Sim, as well as signs of the Developers such as the BloxByte Twitter and the graffiti in Blox City.

Bo greets the player. Once again, he expresses minor confusion on whether or not the player has met him yet, due to “their side of things”. He tasks the player with pressing the Do Not Press button exactly 27 times. This is the same button featured in BloxByte HQ (biome) that released Fluffy and brought the Easter world to Ghost Sim.

Bo says it’s important that the button is pressed, but he doesn’t quite seem to know what it does, judging by his unfinished quest quotes. He still slips up and says he needs to take over Ghost World on occasion.

Update 59[]

Ghost Hunter Allie appears in the Swamp. She’s a bubbly girl dressed in pink with cheese on her head.

Allie has Freudian slips occasionally, almost talking about an accident she and Leo caused while eating cheese in Blaze’s lab while the Agents were making final preparations to fight the Devs. She tries to cover it up but later explains that Leo asked her to keep it quiet while Blaze was preparing at BloxByte HQ. She asks the player to gather ingredients, saying this was the most amazing mistake she’s made: A Cheesy pet as a reward for the player.

Allie gets distracted for a bit, seeing Gab3 in Backdoor. She notices his uncanny resemblance to someone and asks the player if they know anything about that. She was reminded of Gabe and starts worrying about him, asking the player to make sure he’s okay in the Forest. She’s reassured of his safety despite the weirdness she’s noticed.

Allie is based on Tutu, who was at the time a Moderator in the BloxByte Discord server. Similarities include the cheese theme and the avatar. Allie even mentions solving the Bo-ard puzzle with Ghost Hunter Victor, referencing V_cks and Tutu being the first to solve the Bo-ard puzzle together.

Update 61[]

Ghost Hunter Julian is added to the Farm in 1.61.0. He’s an Infinite questline like Hu-man and Victor, however, unlike those two, he doesn’t appear to be an alien. He wears Ghost Sim merch which can be found in the BloxByte store and has no other hints to his identity or personality.

Update 65[]

Ghost Hunter Hans is added to Area 51, alongside a Gumball Machine.

They ask the player to test out their gum, which was developed by Gabe, Riley, and Hans working as a trio. They used to work together at the lab before the Ghost Invasion, which is when they switched careers from a Wizard to a Ghost Hunter, saying science and wizardry are basically the same. They talk about Gabe and Riley often and frets when they lose a ring Riley gave them. They write a letter to them, and they team up to put Gumball Machines in more worlds.

Hans is based on Rocket, who was a Moderator for the BloxByte Discord at the time. Similarities include the hand theme and wizard theme.

Update 69[]

Before 1.70.0, Agent Leo logs onto the BloxByte Discord again. He sends in a photo of the NPCs gathered around the portal in Agents HQ, as seen in Agent Blaze’s post-Final Boss cutscene.

Update 70[]

The portal in Agents HQ is open. The Void, a new world, is added, along with many miniature questlines, a new Shop, and a new Megaboss.

There are 7 islands: One central island, with a Shop area, a Sell area, a Portal to the Backdoor, and NPCs Shelly, Blaze, Luna, Leo, Ace, Jax, Fern, Finsley, Adam, and Jesse. There are 5 color coded islands with the Developer portraits from BloxByte HQ behind them, with correspondingly colored natural phenomena. The last island is the Void Castle, standing tall with massive Alpha ghosts swirling around. The door is sealed.

Each island has one Developer NPC on it, as well as a few other NPCs. CovenK’s island is pink, has pink flowers with tall stems, as well as blooming on the ground. Riley and Gabe are also present on her island. Didi1147’s island has two yellow pyramids and a sandy desert on it, and has Dylan, Jylan, and Wylan making a reappearance, as well as their father Vylan debuting. MakkieMon’s island has plenty of green trees and leaves falling, as well as Rowan, Yoko, and Liz. Thexz’s island has indigo clouds, purple trees, and a waterfall over rocks. Billy and Joven are present, as well as Gatekeeper hidden behind the waterfall. Goro7’s island has a red volcano with lava flowing, and some red shrubbery. Hu-man and Victor are present.

Almost every NPC on the first six islands has a mini-quest to beat the boss in the Void Castle. The exceptions are the Developers, who require you to complete a series of tasks to earn their trust. Each Developer requires a Code from a different Developer in order to begin their questline, with the exception of CovenK. The order the Developers should be completed in is Coven, didi1147, MakkieMon, Thexz, and goro7.

CovenK begins her questline by introducing herself, and what she does for BloxByte. She’s cheerful and appreciative, and as a Developer, primarily acts as the Community Manager, but also makes GFX and helps with questlines. She acknowledges the Final Boss, saying they didn’t know what to do with their NPCs rebelling. She mentions meeting with Riley and Gabe, and Jax’s help negotiating a truce.

CovenK is tasked with ensuring the player is trustworthy, before sending them to the other Devs. She mentions the split in the community, revealing some community members wanted to fight alongside the Developers, but were forced to fight alongside the Devs. The other Devs don’t quite understand how the game is so alive, which worries them, but they’re working on understanding it.

She gives the player a few more quests. She deems the player trustworthy, and reveals that the Developers created the seal on the Void Castle, because it wasn’t supposed to exist. She says they’re preparing to fight, and sends the player to track down one of the items required to open the door: her Digital Remnant. It’s a pink puzzle piece, and what exactly it is is unclear. Once the player finds it, she gives them her code and sends them to talk to him.

Didi1147 introduces himself as a YouTuber, as well as someone who’s modeled some of the hoverboards and items for Ghost Sim. He refuses to talk to the player until they give him CovenK’s code. Once he has it, he elaborates on the Developers’ side of the conflict, blaming it on miscommunication. Their attempt at restabilizing the game was taken as an attempt to wipe out the NPCs, inciting a rebellion which pushed the Devs into a corner and prompted them to actually attempt to wipe them out.

Didi1147 also points to the unprecedented situation of the game coming to life, acknowledging that it’s not normal and they didn’t know what to do. They used BloxByte HQ as their base of operations and watched the players and NPCs as the game changed on its own. New areas had popped up, including the Backdoor, which was a testing zone, never meant for actual gameplay. The Backdoor was falling apart, getting increasingly glitchier, and the Devs were worried the NPCs becoming aware had unstabilized the game. As the glitches got worse, they retreated into BloxByte HQ, where they had been until the Final Boss.

Once you earn didi1147’s trust, he tasks you with finding his Digital Remnant, and sends you off to MakkieMon with his code.

MakkieMon introduces herself as the lead builder and modeler, as well as the main storyline writer. Once you give her didi1147’s code, she talks more about the original plotline for Ghost Simulator and how the game deviated. Every NPC had a different role, or didn’t exist at all originally. They noticed models and NPCs that they didn’t make, and other NPCs created their own storylines. They started writing their own dialogue that differed from Makkie’s plotline, and started rebelling. Notably, Makkie mentions offhandedly that she’s had this happen “only once before”, but not this extreme. This isn’t elaborated upon, but it seems to be that she’s had a different game come alive before.

Makkie reveals details about the original plot. Bo and Shelly were different, one being called Joker, and the other being called Alice. Blaze and Shelly were still siblings originally. Shelly was always supposed to go to Ghost World, but she was supposed to become something else when she got there. Once her dialogue started changing, Makkie tried to rewrite it back to what it was supposed to be, but ended up wiping her mind by accident, blaming the game. Hu-man and Victor are a “surprise”, seemingly even more so than other NPCs, being found nowhere in any of BloxByte’s scripts. Their code is identical, but differs greatly from any other NPCs, and Makkie describes them as alien, saying it’s like their code doesn’t belong in this game. “They’re definitely not from our world”.

Makkie says she’s been talking to Shelly, explaining and apologizing for her memory loss. Shelly forgave her, and gave her a pair of three-eyed glasses. Makkie also takes pride in the Final Boss design.

Makkie sends the player to find her Digital Remnant, calling it “a piece of code the Devs hid”. Once the player finds her Digital Remnant, she warns the player about the boss in the Void Castle, saying BloxByte didn’t make it, and "it’s got some powerful code." She sends the player off to Thexz with her code.

Thexz introduces himself as a YouTuber with didi1147, as well as the one who makes graphics and renders for Ghost Sim. He waits for the player to give him Makkie’s code. Once he has it, he talks about NPCs, noting that they’re not acting quite like NPCs even in their game. He says he thought he’d like to be friends with NPCs, until Blaze became paranoid of them and Luna started the rebellion. He had the idea to get an NPC on the inside to clue them in, so he reached out to Ace. It ended up backfiring, due to his resentment towards the other NPCs. Ace’s role in the original storyline was villain-turned-hero-support, which left some bad code in him they didn’t know about. Instead of stopping anyone from entering the original portal to Ghost World, Ace ended up blowing it up and separating everyone. Thexz laments this event, pointing to the possibility that he put the wrong event in and caused Ace to blow the portal up due to his own inexperience with code. Looking on the bright side, he consoles himself with having brought Ace around to see their point of view.

Thexz reaffirms that in addition to Ace, no NPC was following their original storyline, and their code and memories are more complex, noting that they’re “like real people”. Offhandedly, he mentions that Luna wasn’t supposed to exist originally, only being created to stop the aware NPCs. She did turn on them, and Thexz acknowledges that he wouldn’t like being told what to do either, but tries to reconcile the rebellion with BloxByte’s original desire to make a game together, rather than go to war. BloxByte tried reaching out to numerous NPCs, and ended up talking to Jax, who understood their point of view, and wanted to help them fix everything, as well as help Ace, who was suffering with the amalgamation of corrupted and good code. Thexz mentions explaining what happened to Ace and hopes Ace would forgive him in the future. Ace was curious about his original character, which Thexz describes as his favorite.

Thexz talks more about the Void Castle, saying the main room of the castle was locked when the Devs arrived after the Final Boss fight. They decided to lock the room, rather than try to solve the maze puzzle, as they didn’t know what would happen. The code was entirely unfamiliar, which was scary. He sends the player to find his Digital Remnant, and once they return, gives them his code to hand to goro7.

Goro7 introduces himself as Ghost Sim’s programmer. He’s much more prone to commenting on the player’s experience playing the game, as well as their experience developing the game and other fourth wall breaks. Once you give him Thexz’s passcode, he talks about how BloxByte  came to be. Goro7, MakkieMon, and CovenK were working together on a game, figuring out how to communicate, when they were approached by didi1147 and Thexz, who wanted to make a game. They worked together, hit some bumps along the way, and watched their game climb to the top. With every update, they produced quality work in a week, yet at the same time, the game was coming alive.

In response, they panicked. First Blaze pieced together the truth, then, after they sent in Luna, he intercepted their notes to her and caused her to investigate them instead, sparking a rebellion. They retreated to BloxByte, prepared for a fight, and came to a decision to reset the NPCs to stabilize the game. However, the players jeopardized that, beating the Final Boss. The Developers retreated further, into the Void, where they’ve been up until now. The NPCs and the Developers have come to a temporary truce, upon realizing the threat in the Void Castle is bigger than both of them. Goro7 sends the player to find his Digital Remnant and beat the boss in the Void Castle.

Notably, all the Developer NPCs share some common unfinished and post-quest dialogue: One quote being “nocmig si rome. den het ton sti”, which is an anagram for “more is coming. its not the end”. Another anagram is “rewot. nocmig sti”, which is “tower. its coming” unscrambled. Some are dev calls mentioning a big tall tower, or several stages.

The other NPCs present on the islands all have a single mini-quest to beat the boss in the Void Castle.

Mentions of lore from these mini-questlines include:

  • Jax made up with Fern. She apologizes for ending up on opposite sides, but both she and Ace are doing better now. She’s been negotiating the truce between NPCs and Developers with CovenK.
  • Ace is mulling over the Developers’ actions, mentioning that he was scared when he almost got rebooted. He’s considering forgiving them, since Jax helped him see their point of view, and he acknowledges they were in a tough situation. He used to play G&G with Bo, and is considering becoming a streamer. He views Fern as a little sister.
  • Fern made up with Jax and Ace, and sees him as her big brother. Riley’s been showing Fern some stuff from the Cloud. Fern admits she used to have a crush on Ace, but thinks Jax and Ace are cuter. She talks about sharing food with the other NPCs.
  • Leo hacked the NPCs into the Void. He talks about how funny it is to be on the same side with the Developers.
  • Luna tells the player to talk to the Developers. She admits she has her reservations about them. Once the boss is beaten, she talks about her newfound free time.
  • Jesse and Adam are still in character. They’ve been neutral throughout the war with BloxByte, but are eager to truce with them and take on the boss in the Void Castle. Adam grudgingly appreciates the craftsmanship of the player’s hoverboard.
  • Captain Finsley is similarly in character, mentioning he crashed his dear ship Delila, prompting him to become a land pirate. However, his unfinished quest quotes reveal an entity seemingly speaking through his textboxes: one quote calling the player a creature and introducing itself as something entirely different than the pirate, and another quote hinting the speaker may meet the player soon, at the whim of fate.
  • Shelly fakes out the player by pretending to ask them to play a game, laughing at the player’s response. She thanks the player for reuniting her with Blaze, who managed to cure her affliction using the green fruit from the player, noting some weird code in it. She mentions MakkieMon told her about her original role as Alice (confirming Bo as Joker). Shelly entertains the idea of the player experiencing the original Ghost Sim plotline, and discards the thought, as she’s Shelly and not Alice. Once the boss in the Void Castle is defeated, Shelly’s excited to be invited to Fern’s celebratory picnic.
  • Blaze is clear headed, and looking into the ghostly energy in the Void Castle. He introduces the idea of a boss in the castle. Once the boss is defeated, he entertains the idea of going on a vacation with Shelly to an undersea city, and discovering its secrets under moonlit waters. He also notes a disturbing amount of eggs, turkey, and candy in the castle, references to Bo’s appearances in previous events.
  • Gabe is somewhat confused and excited to be sentient. He’s happy that Jesse still wants to be his friend, and hopes everyone else is the same.
  • Riley’s back, and excited to be alive. She mentions learning a lot from the internet. She’s noticeably more spirited than her last appearance, and doesn’t appear glitchy at all.
  • Vylan introduces himself as the father of the clones. He refers to them as clones initially, but notes they prefer to be called brothers. He’s stepped up into a fatherly role, playing catch and taking pride in them. He says their high energy is a trait he doesn’t share, and offhandedly mentions trusting a giant brain to clone himself.
  • Dylan, Jylan, and Wylan have nearly identical dialogue, besides introducing themselves as the oldest, second oldest, and third oldest, respectively.
  • Liz is still peddling pets, but prioritizes the boss in the Void Castle. She expresses a desire to hang out with Yoko and Rowan once the dust settles.
  • Rowan’s grateful for his freedom, and asks the player to beat the boss in the Void Castle before Yoko can. He becomes defensive when his rivalry with Yoko comes up, and maintains that it’s necessary to become stronger. He says that he likes hanging out with Liz, and admits once that Yoko’s not a bad friend.
  • Yoko keeps his fighting personality, and mentions that Bo taught him all his moves.
  • Billy is no longer glitching out. He mentions Jesse, his cousin, invited him to fight the boss. Billy has the same unfinished questline quotes as Captain Finsley, where he’s possessed by an unfamiliar voice that calls themself “a more refined individual” and claims the NPCs as their own.
  • Joven understands the truth now, and mentions he was able to talk with the Devs. He still thinks of them as his parents to some degree, mentioning the desire to play catch with them. The Devs wanted his forgiveness, and Joven was pleased they weren’t upset with him at all and that everyone is friends again.
  • Gatekeeper is initially silent, but the player remembers to give him some chocolate. Gatekeeper asks the player to fight the boss in the Void Castle, saying the Devs will give him a lot of chocolate. He also reveals the existence of a brother, saying he’d be happy if the player fought the Boss.
  • Hu-man introduces herself, and is excited to talk to the player, a human. She expresses the desire to learn from humans. She asks if the player has met Victor, revealing him to be her brother, and says Victor looks very visually similar to her, with the same jawline and family crest on his apparel. She reveals he uses a hologram to appear human. She asks the player to fight the boss in the Void Castle in order to fit in with other NPCs. Her unfinished and end quest dialogue reveal she has sensors that can read the player’s mind, which she uses to aid with translation. She has a small holographic panel which she uses for research, and says she came here to learn.
  • Victor is formally spoken. He reveals he’s spent more time in this world than his sister, and acknowledges the strangeness of her name, revealing that his kind names themselves after their interests, later on in their life cycles. Victor was an arena victor, and Hu-man studied humans. He studies languages more than her, however, and points to that as the reason for speaking differently than in Ghost World, saying a “seasoned warrior must be ready to take on many roles”. His personality is centered around glory in battle, and assure the player that they’ll fight together again.

The Void Castle is unlocked with the 5 Digital Remnant pieces. It has a maze with levers hidden inside. Once the levers are pulled correctly, the player must navigate until they find a chest with Bo’s Ghastly Cane in it. This unlocks the boss teleport, where it’s revealed Bo is the hidden boss. Every NPC present in the Void watches the battle from over the arena.

Once the battle is over, a door opens, revealing a Bo mini quest. There’s no task to complete. Bo explains his motive and his backstory. He reveals that fighting the player was a ruse, to get the Developers and the NPCs to make up after fighting instead of talking it out. He planned to start his own war in order to get them to put theirs aside. Bo thanks the player for being his best friend, and gets weepy, saying he’ll miss the player.

At the time, the only NPCs present in game (excluding Event NPCs) to not appear in the void were Allie, Hans, Gab3, Julian, and Boven.

Update 74[]

Ghost Hunter Da-vid is added to the Void, in front of the Ghostly Castle. Da-vid is a robot that dispenses infinite questlines for random ghosts in the Backdoor. His text is robotic, requiring processing time. He randomly generates facts about Ghost Simulator’s behind-the-scenes development.

Update 77[]

??? (Rebirth NPC/“Reaper”) is added to the Void, alongside the Rebirth system, and cameos of a green holographic figure (“Green Girl”).

??? is garbed in all black robes, and their face is enshadowed, with the exception of bright glowing green eyes. They speak slowly, and sensing a desire for power and adventure in the Player, appeal to that. They tell the Player they’re not ready, and ask them to beat Boss Bo in the Void Castle. Once the Player finishes, they open up the choice to Rebirth. They subtly goad the player into Rebirthing, telling them to jump if they’re brave enough.

Rebirthing automatically unlocks the ability to see "2nd Arc" NPCs (and by extension access to the Remnant Zone), and one other gameplay perk at the Player’s choice. Ghostly Vision and Lucky Eyes in particular offers the ability to see previously unseeable bosses/ghosts. Dino King is reminiscent of a boss previously seen in the Dino Event, while Jolly Roger is reminiscent of a boss previously seen in the Atlantis Event. Notably, Anonymous is the only boss that doesn’t reuse an old boss model.

Upon Rebirthing, a green hologram of a person with a mask, a braid, a bowtie, a jester’s hat, and a faint impression of a jester’s suit can be seen randomly for a few moments. She spawns in several locations throughout the first 3 worlds. The full list of locations can be seen on her Wiki page, but most notable is sitting at Luna’s computer in Luna’s Room.

This update begins the 2nd Arc of Ghost Simulator's storyline.
