Upgrader Help

Upgrades are mechanics that increases the efficiency of the Player. Upgrades are obtainable by completing certain NPCs' questlines. There are currently 9 different Upgrades in the game. and another 8 given from rebirths. Normal upgrades are taken away after each rebirth, while Rebirth upgrades will stay with the Player unless disabled.

Duration[]

Upgrades can generally be split up into 3 different groups based on the duration of the effect. In order of descending duration they are: Permanent, Normal, and Timed.

Permanent[]

Permanent upgrades are upgrades that will stick with a player throughout the game once achieved. They can still be disabled (either by the Player, or during some game features like the Final Boss fight), but will remain even after rebirthing. Some common types are upgrades from Rebirths, Gamepasses, and some NPCs like Grans Gum Hotkey.

Normal[]

Normal upgrades are the traditional upgrades received from NPCs. Similarly to Permanent upgrades, these perks are applied to a Player unless disabled, and will stay with them for most of their time playing. However, these perks are lost when a player rebirths, and the Player must complete an NPC's questline again to reobtain it. Examples include the Hoverboard from Adam, Extra Pet Slot from Shelly, and the Particle Accelerator from Billy.

Timed[]

Timed upgrades are upgrades that a Player gets for only a specific length of time after which they will lose the effect. Duration of these upgrades can be anywhere from 30 seconds (for Dancing Gum), to 1 hour (for Boosted Lucky Gum), to over a month (for Event Pass boosted drops effect). Most of these effects get a small number (denoted in seconds, hours, or even days for longer durations) on their icon.

Effects[]

Upgrade effects can be divided into 4 different categories with some upgrades applying some, or even all of the different types at a time. These can be roughly outlined as follows Gameplay, Movement, Buff, and Cosmetic.

Gameplay[]

Gameplay upgrades are all upgrades that change how players play the game. They include adding additional features to the game (like Ghostly Vision) or giving the player new abilities (like Photon Blaster or Magnet).

Movement[]

Movement upgrades are any upgrade that gives the player new movement options like Hoverboard or the Parachute.

Buff[]

Buff upgrades are those that only improve the effects of other features, this includes all non-Cosmetic Gum and some traditional upgrades like Hoverboard Turbocharger.

Cosmetic[]

Cosmetics are upgrades that visually change the Player's avatar or their screen (in the case of Remnant Gum, which allows the Player to see in a blacklight view). These include the Hero's Crown and all Cosmetic Gums.
