The Acorn is the first item encountered in the game, obtained from Fairy and Owl ghosts in the Forest biome. They can be used to upgrade the antenna, burned at the Junkyard for 5 Ecto-Tokens each, or converted at the Main Hub Gumball Machine at a ratio of 50:1 Gum.
